Careers: Tertiary Interviews

Tertiary Interviews

Tertiary Interviews (Folios)

For application to many courses in Art and Design you will be  required to provide examples of your work as a part of a Pre-Selection  Kit. Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview in  November where you will  present a folio of your work to the selection  panel.

To prepare your Folio please consider the following recommendations;
  • Include a variety of selected pieces (don't present everything you have done)
  • Use a display book or secured pages
  • Consider including tabs to highlight developmental pages (to show key concepts)
  • Sequential, logical and neat presentation is important
  • demonstrate use of the design process
  • Include drawing from observation and./or life drawing (indicates drawing skills that are a must for every course)
  • Use a variety of media e.g. cartooning, film and media pieces, storyboards, use of technology.computer
  • Demonstrate the ability to look beyond the task... they want to see creativity and originality
The Interview;
  • Presentation is important
  • Demonstrate that you are organised
  • Show a clear knowledge of the course and its career outcomes - know your application!
  • Be able to explain your reasons for applying at a particular insitution
  • Have the ability to talk confidently about the folio, the process you went through and your aims
  • Show a clear understanding of the industry and its possibilities
  • Demonstrate motivation and commitment, particularly over time. E.g.  be able to discuss artists (local and overseas) you admire and why,  exhibitions you have been to and how they have influenced your  work/ideas
  • Have questions prepared (asking questions is good!), it's an opportunity for clarification.
