Looking for Accommodation

Accommodation

Living in a College, Hall or in another form of Student  Accommodation will allow you the opportunity to build lifelong  friendships with students from across all faculties and interact with  both undergraduate and graduate students.

Colleges and Halls aren't just places to sleep, they provide a  cultural, social and sporting dimension to your university experience.  They provide educational programmes such as small-group  tutorials, access to academics and tutors and many have their own  libraries. Colleges provide fully furnished single rooms with shared  bathrooms, and services such as internet and laundries provided. Meals  are usually included in the cost and these are served in communal dining rooms.

...all within walking distance of your classes!

However, if you would prefer to live in a self contained apartment  or house with 2 or 3 other students and prepare your own meals and share a lounge-room and kitchen, then you will also have some great options in locations close to most Melbourne metropolitan universities. Rather  than being located on campus, these facilities might be a short tram  ride away from your campus and are often set up as a 'village' with open communal space.

Alternatively, you may decide to live in a share house.

Student Accommodation can vary in many ways - including size,  location and cost. You should compare your options and contact the  Colleges or facilities which most interest you.

Share Houses

Share House Hints

The main benefit of sharing a house or apartment is reducing living expenses such as rent and bills, but the company of your housemates is  another great advantage. Moving into an established household is often  easier and less costly than doing it on your own and will suit you if  you are happy to pay rent for your own bedroom while sharing the  bathroom, kitchen and living areas.

Where to look for share accommodation:
  1. Once you enrol at University you should contact your Student Housing centre - they usually have a password-protected website for accessing  share houses of current students.
  2. Check local newspapers in your preferred area, such as the Leader or Melbourne Times. The Domain in the The Age newspaper on Wednesdays and Saturdays have a wide range of shared accommodation advertised.
  3. Search the web;
