The 2020 Industry Speakers film

2020 VCV INDUSTRY SPEAKER RESOURCE

The  3 presenters, Environmental, Communication and Industrial Designers, speak to the Unit 3 Outcome 2 Design Industry Practice Key Knowledge and Skills.

This is intended to give your students both a choice in who they respond to and variety to expand their understanding of Professional Practice in preparation for the final examination.

Communication designer - Wayne Thompson, Australian Type Foundry

To date, Wayne has produced custom typefaces for Lego, Tourism Australia, Officeworks, the NRL, Holden and O’Brien Glass, and in 2016 developed ABCSans which is currently in widespread use across the national broadcaster’s digital and television networks. Wayne will speak about the design of ABC sans. 

"But how do you design your country’s national font? I hoped to capture something of our national identity: encapsulate a sense of open space, a contrast that is simultaneously austere and rich, and a sense of inclusiveness. We also aimed for a tone of voice which was serious enough for news but light enough to suit a wide variety of human interest stories."

Industrial designer - Johnathon Stevens

We are fortunate to have Johnathon Stevens, who will speak about the design of the Solace Chair.
The brief was to design a piece of furniture that would suit both an indoor and outdoor environment.This design was established while exploring shapes and comfort of indoor furniture, and looking at how this could be adapted into a flexible and adaptive piece of furniture

Environmental designer - Sue Stansfield

With over twenty five years of design and brand implementation experience with Cato Brand Partners, Sue leads design projects for large international and local brands, across all industry sectors and design disciplines, including retail, finance, transport, tourism, health, sport, engineering, education, property development, government and the arts. Sue will speak about the design of the BankWest corporate offices, Perth. 14 levels 1.1 kilometres of interior branding and graphics, wayfinding and naming in coordination with architects, interior designers, Western Australian photographers and suppliers through to installation.
