OPEN DAYS
We strongly encourage all students in years 9-12 to attend Open Days, which are held on weekends through July and August. Obtain an Open Day Program before you go (copies will be available from the Careers Centre and on institutional websites from June) so that you can plan your visit.
Read the program before attending to check the times of talks and demonstrations that interest you.

ATTENDING Open Days is really important, especially if you intend to apply for a course that requires an interview, folio presentation or audition. You will be at a serious disadvantage if you have never visited the institution involved.

Questions to ask at Open Day

What 'majors' can I study?
Can I study subjects from other faculties for my electives?
Can I study a Diploma of Languages?
What prerequisite subjects do I need to have studied in VCE in order to apply for this course?
Can I combine this course with one from another faculty?
What is the guaranteed minimum ATAR for this course?
Are there any other ways into this course, such as a TAFE pathway?
Does this course have any links with industry?
What methods of teaching and assessment are involved in each of the subjects?
What are the core subjects that this course covers?
How many students are in each class?
How many hours of classes per day/week does this course involve?
Which elective subjects can I choose from?
How difficult is it to transfer into another course once I have gained entry to a university?
What are graduates of this course doing now?
How many are employed full time? How much do they earn?
If you are concerned about obtaining the ATAR for the course, ask about the possibility of transfer after first year in another course... and which course would they recommend for as a 'pathway'? (e.g. TAFE Diploma)
Don't forget:
Consider transport/parking options on campus. How will you travel to your institution from home? Are the public transport connections practical?
Look at accommodation available on campus if you plan to live away from home. Pick up Application Forms at Open Day for living on campus.
